How to Get Free Pictures for Your Web Site!

If you have a personal web site that is being used in a non-commercial way, you can use any of the pictures on our stock image site for free! All we ask in return is that you give credit to Worldview Images with a clickable link to WVI, for the free image that you use, or leave the watermark logo on the image that you use so that the worldviewimages.com web site is clearly visable and readable.

Here is how to get the free photos for your web site!

1. Search through our galleries to find the image that you want to use. Be sure to also try our search box and our "Key Word" list from the main navigation menu.

2. Next, decide what size image you would like to download. For our "free photo promotion", we give you two "screen resolution" sizes to choose from, (s) small and (m) medium. For the greatest flexibility in terms of cropping you will probably want to be sure that you are downloading the largest size available. One of the best ways to insure that you are viewing and getting the largest size possible, is to choose "smugmug" from the "style" options.

3. Another way that you can check to be sure you are getting the largest size possible in this "free image program", is to make sure that (M) for "medium" is selected from the size options, below the image.

4. If you are using Internet Explorer for your web browser, “right-click” on the image and choose “Save Picture As” from the dropdown menu.

4. You will then be presented with the File Save window where you can choose where on your computer you would like to save the image, and what you would like to name the image. Choose a place on your computer that you know that you will be able to find again or create a new location and folder to save your images to. You can either leave the file name as the default file name that is given, or call it something that you would prefer.

5. If you are using Fire Fox for your browser, the process is the same, just use "Save Image As" from the "right-click" menu. MAC users can get the save menu by using "Control Click" on the image.

If you would like to use the image(s) without giving credit to worldviewimages.com, you can pay a small fee for the license to use the photo without giving credit. You will receive a file that is about twice the resolution (1Megapixel) as the free image, and it will be clear of all watermarks and logos. Just click on "Buy this photo" to add the image(s) to your "shopping cart", and then "check out" using any major credit card. All transactions are secure, using our partner, Smugmug. You will then be given instructions for immediate download of images that are free of the WVI logo.

Important Message to Teachers

As you teach your students how to download the photos from Worldview Images, please be sure to also take the time to explain to them that the process of harvesting images from the internet, using the right-click method, at most sites on the internet is not only unethical, but illegal. Explain to them the importance of always checking to see what every website says about the use of images displayed at their site. While we want to make our images available to students and teachers for use in their school assignments and projects, we don’t want to encourage a mentality that all images on the internet are somehow in the “public domain” and are free to use by simply “right click” saving. It is important that students be educated in the principles of copyright, intelectual property ownership, and the right to use material that they find on the internet.

Students should know that while it is unlikely that the courts would consider a case against students using copyrighted material from the internet for school projects, they should be aware that in the adult world, in the real world, in the corporate world, using images gathered from the internet without permission or without purchasing the right to use, can, and often does result in litigation. The legal system in most “Western” countries usually favor the content owners of intellectual and artistic properties, and fines for illegal use can be as high as $100,000 or more! So, while we want you to feel welcome at Worldview Images, please use this opportunity to educate your students on the morality, ethics and legal implications of using copyrighted material that they find on the internet.

Thanks for your co-operation and enjoy the free-use policies of Worldview Images!
